Women's Gymnastics | January 12

DeKALB, Ill. ­– Northern Illinois University gymnastics hits the road for the first time this season as they travel to Minnesota and prepare to compete against the host school, No. 20 Maryland and Winona State on Saturday at 4 p.m. CDT.
 
"We're feeling really good about this weekend," said NIU head coach Sam Morreale. "It's going to be fun up in Minnesota, going against a couple of Big Ten teams there and Winona. It will be a good challenge for us, but we aren't going in expecting to do poorly. We're going in expecting to do what we've been training for all semester."
 
The competition will be held in the Maturi Pavillion, home of the Gophers, who are coming off their 22^nd consecutive team regional qualifying season. NIU will also take on the Terrapins who are ranked third in the Big Ten and the Warriors who won their first meet of the season against the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
 
The Huskies go into the second week of competition after their home opener last weekend against North Carolina State and University of Illinois-Chicago, where NIU came up short to the Wolfpack and Flames. The team is looking for redemption and thinks they have prepared this for this week in the gym.
 
"It's always great, after getting started, going back to the gym," said Morreale. "It's definitely an advantage that we are on a break, where we can focus a little more on getting reset for our first road trip. They have been paying really close attention to details and trying to hammer out those little mistakes that we had that first meet."
