DeKALB, Ill. – It's going to be a busy weekend for the Northern Illinois University gymnastics team as they head to Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday to take on Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan and return Sunday to compete in Chicago against UIC.

"Historically, having back-to-back meets has been good for us," said NIU head coach Sam Morreale. "Truth be told, once you start competing, practice becomes a much harder aspect of the season than the competitions are. I think they kind of enjoy the double meet weekends from the standpoint of you're not just practicing, everything matters."

The Huskies take on the Eagles at 4 p.m. CDT on Friday in their third MAC competition of the season. Since 2013 the Huskies have won four of the last five regular season matchups against the Eagles with the most recent being last season where the team clutched the win, 195.525-195.325.

"It's good to get back into MAC-play and going up against the defending champions' gym," said NIU head coach Sam Morreale about competing against EMU. "We get to test our quality against one of the best teams in our conference, which we feel like we are a part of and where we rank ourselves."

It will be a quick turnaround for the team as they return home just to make the short trip to UIC on Sunday. The Sunday competition will be NIU's second against the Flames.

In early January, the Huskies hosted UIC along with NC State. The Huskies are looking forward to the second meeting after starting the season off uncharacteristically, posting a 192.600 to the Flames' 194.025.

Coach Morreale believes that the Huskies have made it past the first meet with great improvement after posting scores of 195.200 at Kent State (Jan. 19), 194.950 against Central Michigan (Jan. 28) and 194.375 at Iowa State's quad-meet a week ago.
