NIU sophomore falls in the consolation bracket

CLEVELAND – Northern Illinois University wrestler Brock Hudkins had his run in the 2018 NCAA National Championships come to an end as the Huskie grappler lost in the second round consolation match at the Quicken Loans Arena on Friday.

Hudkins, a native of Danville, Ind., suffered a 7-2 setback to No. 8 seed Ethan Lizak of Minnesota in his second round consolation match. Lizak recorded a takedown and two-point near fall in the first period and a two-point near fall in the second.

The Huskie sophomore got his legs under him in the third period, recording a takedown. Hudkins was working hard for a pin late in the period, but was unable to get Lizak's shoulders down on the mat.

"It was a well-fought match," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "Brock represented NIU very well. In his young career, he has a lot to build on and very lofty goals moving forward."
