Ludwig Inks Eight for Huskies Wrestling

DeKALB, IL—Northern Illinois University wrestling head coach Ryan Ludwig has announced the addition of eight athletes set to join the Huskies in the fall of 2025. The class includes six true freshman and two transfers from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Alabama.
 
"We are excited about this group as they bring the energy and dedication we look for," noted Ludwig. "They have the passion it takes to train and compete in all areas of life."
 
Ali Adel joins the Huskies wrestling program after competing at Harper College the previous two seasons. Adel, a native of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, took sixth at the NJCAA National Championships as he earned All-American Honors. Adel was a state qualifier for William Fremd High School before claiming a podium spot at the Muskie Scramble in 2023-24.
 
Logan Bender comes to NIU after competing at Chisago Lakes High School where he held a record of 116-28. Bender was the Greco State Champion during his junior season and took sixth at state the year prior. The Sunrise, Minnesota native is a two-time All-State Honoree and three-time All-Conference honoree in addition to earned All-State academic wrestling honors. 
 
William Cole is set to debut for the Huskies program after compiling a record of 130-22 at Round Lake High School. Cole is a conference and sectional champion while capturing runner-up honors at the Illinois State tournament. The Round Lake, Illinois native is a three-time All-Conference and All-Area honoree and has received All-State honors twice.
 
Nathan Elstner is the single-season wins leader at Lincoln-Way West High School, capturing 45 wins. Additionally, Elstner's 80 career pins are the school record as he captured the single season record of 30 pins. The New Lenox, Illinois native was a regional champion, three-year All-Conference honoree, earned All-State and All-Area honors and was a four-year varsity starter in his prep career.

Maddox Garbis joins the Huskies wrestling program after competing at Plainfield North High School. Garbis was a two-time All-Conference honoree and three-year All-State member. The Plainfield, Illinois native qualified for Fargo for three consecutive years while also earned Academic All-Conference honors.
 
Caleb Roe is set to join the NIU wrestling team after competing for Presbyterian College from 2022-25. Roe was a two-year NWCA Scholar All-American while collecting a record of 24-37 record. Roe, a native of Arab, Alabama, was a two-time Alabama state champion and member of the 2020 team that claimed the state title.
 
Logan Trenary will join the Huskies wrestling program after competing at Southeast Polk High School in Iowa. Trenary was an Iowa State finalist during the 2023-24 season and held a 100-25 record heading into his senior campaign. The Altoona, Iowa native was a member of the 2023-24 Dual Champion team and helped win the traditional state championship twice.
 
Tyler Turzinski will make his debut for the NIU wrestling program after competing at Shakopee High School during his prep career. Turzinski was a member of the 2025 team that were Minnesota State Runners-Up. The Savage, Minnesota native is a four-year All-Conference member and was a team captain during his senior season.
 
The 2024-25 Huskies wrestling program finished the season with a record of 7-3 and a MAC Champion at 125 pounds. Six Huskies earned Academic All-MAC honors while four received Scholar All-American honors from the NWCA.
