DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University softball player
Jenny Van Geertry was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District first team the College Sports Information Directors Association announced Thursday.
This is the first Academic All-District honor for the Huskie outfielder and the fifth for NIU. She joins Emily Naegele, who earned the honor in 2015 and 2016, Carly Norton, who was a 2011 honoree and 2017 second-team selection,
Kayti Grable.
A second-team All-MAC selection, Van Geertry is batting a team-best .395 and leads the team in five other offensive categories. Starting all 52 games for the Huskies (22-30, 11-11), she has tallied team-highs in hits (62) in at bats (157) and runs scored (43). Her runs scored ranks third in the league, while her hits rank fourth.
Van Geertry, a Mokena, Ill. native, also has a team-leading .662 slugging percentage, tallying 24 extra base hits. She has a team-high 12 doubles and is second on the team in triples and home runs with six each. She has driven in 25 runs, which ranks fourth on the team.
