DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University football team will take on the Michigan Wolverines in Michigan Stadium on September 18, 2021, the two schools announced Friday.
In the only other game between the two schools, Michigan defeated NIU, 33-17, in Ann Arbor in the 2005 season opener. Huskie tailback Garrett Wolfe gained 148 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 76-yard run in the loss.
NIU is 4-2 versus teams from the Big Ten Conference over the last six seasons and will play at Nebraska in 2019 and at Maryland in 2020. All-time, the Huskies are 8-37-1 versus teams from the league.
The Huskies, who claimed the program's fifth Mid-American Conference Championship in 2018, open the 2019 season on August 31 with a home game versus Illinois State and will play road games at Vanderbilt and at Utah in addition to Nebraska, next season.
