TEAGUE PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH

NIU Hall of Famer In 13th Season

DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University gymnastics head coach Sam Morreale on Wednesday announced the promotion of Dawnita "Nita" Teague from assistant coach to associate head coach.

"I am super excited that the department allowed me to give Nita this new distinction," Morreale said. "She's been an integral part of not only the success we've had lately, but the turnaround of the program."

Teague has proven to be a key factor in the Huskies' success. As she enters her 13th season on the coaching staff in 2020, the Huskies have broken 10 of the top 11 total team scores during her tenure. Teague was also the choreographer for the 19th ranked floor squad in the nation in 2019.

"I feel very honored to be nominated and promoted to this position. It's been a wonderful experience working with all the girls on the team and working with the coaching staff that we have here," Teague said. "I couldn't be more happy about it, I absolutely love my job here."

Teague was inducted into the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007 and as a historic alum for NIU gymnastics, she continues to make the program proud. She has coached three of NIU's four MAC champions on balance beam with the Huskies achieving six of the school's top ten beam team scores under her direction. In 2019, the beam team not only set the record for NIU's top score, but also secured the 2019 MAC Championship title.

Huskie Gymnastics start off its 2020 season at Kent State on January 12 at noon (CT). The team will host its first home meet on January 17 against Western Michigan at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center in DeKalb as one half of the Beauty and the Beast event with NIU Wrestling.
