DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University freshman wrestler
Brit Wilson garnered Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week honors following his performance in NIU's duals in East Lansing. Mich. last weekend the league announced Wednesday.
It is Wilson's first Wrestler of the Week award of his career and the first for an NIU wrestler this season.
The Mexico, Mo. native went 2-0 in a pair of duals, helping the Huskies to a 1-1 afternoon at Michigan State on Saturday. Wilson, who is currently ranked 16th at 174, scored an 11-0 major decision victory over Anthony Vetrano and helped NIU to a 33-6 victory over Bloomsburg. He followed up that performance with an 8-3 win over Drew Hughes of Michigan State, who was ranked 19th by FloWrestling, ending Hughes' three bout winning streak. It was Wilson's ninth victory in 10 matches.
The Huskies return to action Friday, Feb. 15 when NIU travels to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State. The match starts at 6 p.m. CT. NIU will stay in the Cleveland area Saturday for an afternoon match with Cleveland State.
