DEKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team was named to the 2018-19 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll on Tuesday, the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association announced.
The Huskies had a 3.51 cumulative grade point average for the 2018-19 academic year which put them 23
rd on the WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll for NCAA Division I programs. NIU is the only Mid-American Conference program on the list.
"This is a group that has a very clear understanding of how hard you have to work to be successful," said head coach
Lisa Carlsen. "They have that mentality on the court and for sure in the classroom. This is a great honor to recognize their collective academic efforts this year and something to be very proud of."
The Huskies had six student-athletes named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC team this season, led by graduated senior
Mikayla Voigt who was named a MAC Distinguished Scholar for the third time in her career.
Voigt also became the third Huskie in program history to be named a Google Cloud Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America, earning second team honors.
