BOCA RATON, Fla. – Northern Illinois University head softball coach
Christina Sutcliffe has been recognized for her stellar career as a pitcher at Florida Atlantic University as she will be inducted into the Florida Atlantic University Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, 2019.
One of eight honorees, Sutcliffe will be inducted along with her head coach, Joan Joyce.
"Being the sixth class inducted into FAU's Hall of Fame is an honor beyond words," Sutcliffe said. "To be inducted with coach Joyce as well makes it extra special as she has been my mentor for the last 25 years.
"Something like this doesn't happen without all my coaches who pushed me beyond my limits, my family who gave me the opportunity to play the sport I love and my friends and teammates who have supported me through all the ups and downs. I am truly humbled and speechless."
A standout pitcher for the Owls, Sutcliffe anchored the FAU pitching staff from 1997-2001. She ranks among the program leaders in nearly every pitching category appearing in 104 games, amassing 67 victories in 601.1 innings of work. Sutcliffe finished her career with a 1.47 earned run average and held opposing hitters to a .211 batting average. She recorded 351 career strikeouts while tossing two no-hitters.
Sutcliffe was a member of five Trans America Athletic Tournament Championship teams and earned TAAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors in 1997. She was a four-year first team All-TAAC selection and was named to the Academic All-TAAC Team four times as well.
During her seven-year tenure here at NIU, Sutcliffe has led the Huskies to the Mid-American Conference Tournament every year, won the 2016 MAC West division title and back-to-back 30-win seasons from the first time since 1999-2000.
