DEKALB, IL – Mikayla Voigt of the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team has been named the Mid-American Conference's nominee for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year. She is one of 149 conference-level honorees across all divisions of the NCAA after 585 student-athletes were initially nominated by their respective institutions.
 
Voigt graduated in May with an undergraduate degree in nursing and a 3.90 cumulative grade point average. A three-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, Voigt became the third Academic All-American in NIU women's basketball history when she was named to the Second Team of the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's Basketball Team.
 
This past season, Voigt led the Huskies in scoring with 19.5 points per game and 98 three-pointers made which are second-most in a single season in program history. On Dec. 8, Voigt set NIU and MAC single-game records with 52 points and 11 three-pointers in the Huskies' win over Western Illinois. Voigt earned Second Team All-MAC honors in her senior season. She finished her career fifth on the NIU scoring chart with 1,741 points.
 
Off the basketball court, Voigt served on the NIU Student-Athlete Advisory Council Executive Board as well as the MAC Council of Student-Athletes Executive Committee for the last two years. She also volunteered locally with the Salvation Army, Kishwaukee Family YMCA, and Hope Haven among other places.
 
The conference-level nominees are now forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee which will choose the top 10 honorees in each division in early September. The 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced on Oct. 20.
