Huskies Finalize 2020 Recruiting Class

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University women's soccer head coach Julie Colhoff announced the Huskies' 13-member recruiting class for 2020 on Friday (April 16). NIU's incoming class includes seven in-state signees with an additional six states also represented in the group. 

"We're excited to welcome the 2020 recruiting class to the family this fall," said Colhoff. "It's a big class and we believe that each one of them brings something special to the program. They've each been recruited to come in prepared so that they can immediately make an impact with their skill, athleticism and competitive mentality. We have big goals as a program and I'm really looking forward to this class joining forces with our current squad to achieve them."

Adams, a defender, was a two-year letterwinner at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., and recorded eight assists as a senior in 2019, helping the Spartans win a sectional championship. Adams played club soccer with FC Pride in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), helping her team reach nationals three times. 

A forward from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Ill., English scored 35 goals as a junior in 2019, helping the Cardinals win a conference championship. A two-time All-Suburban South Red Division and Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) All-Sectional honoree (2018, '19), English was named to the Daily Southtown All-Area Second Team in 2019. She played club soccer with Chicago Fire Juniors South. 

Frazer is a two-time All-Southwest Prairie Conference honoree (2018, '19) who has played both on the backline and in midfield at Oswego East High School. Along with all-conference recognition, Frazer was also a Kendall County Record All-Area selection in both 2018 and 2019 and received IHSSCA All-Sectional honorable mention in each of those two seasons. Frazer played club soccer with Team Chicago. 

A defender from Wentzville, Mo., Honoré was a four-year letterwinner at Timberland High School, just outside of St. Louis. Honoré was a two-time all-conference selection in the Gateway Athletic Conference, earning first team honors in 2019 and second team recognition in 2018. Honoré was also a two-time Missouri State Cup finalist playing for the Lou Fusz Soccer Club. 

Joining the Huskies from Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Jones scored 11 goals and tallied four assists as a sophomore for the Golden Eagles, helping Mountain Vista reach the state semifinals and a top-100 national ranking. A forward, Jones also earned team offensive MVP honors and claimed second team all-conference recognition. She played club soccer with Real Colorado in the ECNL. 

Meier scored 61 goals and tallied 35 assists in three seasons playing at nearby Sycamore High School, winning three conference and regional championships (2017, '18, '19) with the Spartans. A two-time all-conference and two-time all-area honoree (2018, '19), the forward set a new school record with 31 goals for Sycamore during the 2019 season. Meier was named to the Chicagoland Soccer All-State Watch List this spring and played club soccer with the Rockford Raptors. 

Muessig scored 74 goals and tallied 45 assists in three seasons at Paw Paw High School, earning Michigan Division 3 All-State honors in each of those three seasons. The midfielder played club soccer with Midwest United FC, helping the club win the 2017 Super Y League national championship. As a senior at Paw Paw, Muessig was also the placekicker for the football team, earning Kalamazoo area Dream Team honors. 

A three-year letterwinner at West Chicago High School, Navejas was a two-time Upstate Eight All-Conference selection (2018, '19) as well as a two-time IHSSCA All-Sectional honoree (2018, '19). A versatile player who can play both forward and in midfield, Navejas played club soccer with Team Chicago. 

Neau has twice earned all-county and all-region honors as Alexander High School in Douglasville, Ga., and helped the Cougars win the Region 5-6A title during her junior season in 2019. A goalkeeper, Neau recorded a sub 1.00 goals against average in each of her four seasons at Alexander, including a 0.34 GAA in eight games as a senior this year prior to the interruption of the campaign by the COVID-19 pandemic. Neau played club soccer with AFC Lightning. 

Thompkins was named to the All-Southeast Conference First Team as a junior in 2019 at Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wis., after leading the Hawks in assists while also setting a school record with five goals in a game. The defender also played club soccer with FC Wisconsin in the ECNL. 

A midfielder from Rockford East High School, Ward was named to the All-NIC 10 First Team in 2019 after earning All-NIC 10 Special Mention recognition in each of the previous two seasons. Ward also earned IHSSCA All-Sectional honors in 2019 and scored 16 goals with seven assists in three seasons with the E-Rabs. She played club soccer with Shadow Premier FC. 

Wingfield scored 21 goals in two seasons at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill., helping the Patriots win a pair of conference and regional titles (2018, '19) as well as a sectional championship in 2019. The forward was named to the Lake County All-Area First Team by the Daily Herald in 2019 while also earning All-North Suburban Conference and IHSSCA All-Sectional honors. Wingfield played club soccer with FCX Barrington. 

Zipse played three seasons at Batavia High School, helping the Bulldogs win three conference championships (2017, '18, '19) and a pair of regional titles (2017, '19). An all-conference performer in both 2018 and 2019, the midfielder was also named to the IHSSCA All-Sectional Team in 2019 after earning honorable mention recognition in 2018. Zipse was named to the Chicagoland Soccer All-State Watch List in 2020 and played club soccer with the Chicago Soccer Academy.
