DeKALB, IL – The Mid-American Champion NIU men's soccer team begins play in the NCAA Tournament at home Thursday night against Oakland, while NIU Football opens the week at Buffalo. NIU volleyball hosts Western Michigan Wednesday night to wrap up the regular season before heading to Muncie, Ind. later in the week for the MAC volleyball tournament as men's and women's basketball, wrestling and gymnastics are all in action this week as well.

NIU Football takes its final road trip of the regular season with a game at Buffalo Wednesday night on ESPN2. The Huskies' claimed their sixth one-score victory of the season last week with a 30-29 win over Ball State for the Bronze Stalk.
John Richardson made a 38-yard field goal as time expired to keep NIU atop the MAC West. Eight of NIU's 10 games this season have been decided by one score. The Huskies have won 26 of their last 30 games against the MAC East. A full preview is available on

The NIU volleyball team wraps up the regular season Wednesday night against Western Michigan at Victor E. Court. The Huskies have won four straight matches, and five out of the last six, after sweeping last weekend's series against Buffalo. NIU clinched its berth into the upcoming MAC Tournament last Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of the Bulls. The Huskies are locked into the sixth seed for the MAC Tournament at Ball State, and will play a quarterfinal match on Sunday night at 6 p.m.

The MAC champion NIU men's soccer team hosts Oakland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday night at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex. This is the Huskies' fourth appearance in the national tournament and the third time NIU will host a first round matchup. NIU won the MAC Tournament last weekend, defeating Bowling Green 5-2 in the semifinals and Georgia State 2-1 in double overtime in the final.
Nick Markanich scored his nation's best 16
th goal of the season to clinch the tournament title. Oakland comes to DeKalb with a 12-6-2 record after winning the Horizon League tournament. The winner of Thursday's match will travel to take on fifth-seeded Pittsburgh Sunday.

The Huskies look to rebound from a loss at Indiana last Friday when they take part in the Jacksonville Classic this week. NIU opens the tournament with a game at Missouri on Thursday night before heading down to Florida to play Boston University, then either Little Rock or Sam Houston State. Sophomore guard

Gymnastics
Friday, November 19: Red/Black Dual, 6 p.m.
Get your first look at the 2022 NIU Huskies gymnastics team Friday night in Victor E. Court when the team takes to the vault, bars, beam and floor in the annual Red-Black Intrasquad Meet. The Huskies return 15 gymnasts from last year's MAC runner-up squad, including a pair of NCAA qualifiers and MAC individual event champions in
Tara Kofmehl and
Natalie Hamp. NIU also has added six newcomers who will compete in the Convocation Center for the first time. Admission is free.
Wrestling
Sunday, November 21: at Boilermaker Duals, 10 a.m.
The Huskie wrestling team travels to West Lafayette, Ind. to take part in the Boilermaker Duals Sunday. NIU (0-1, 0-1) will face three schools at host Purdue's Holloway Gymnasium. The Huskies will open the day with a match against Duke at 10 a.m. before facing Brown at noon and will finish the day versus the host Boilermakers at 2 p.m. CT. NIU is looking to bounce back from a 20-14 setback at Rider in the conference opener last week. Trailing 14-0 through the first four matches,
Anthony Gibson, Izzak Olejnik,
Mason Kauffman and
Brit Wilson each scored wins and tied the match 14-14 heading into the final two bouts. Unfortunately for the Huskies Rider edged out the next two Huskies to take the match.

NIU Women's Basketball returns home Monday night to host the Bradley Braves at 6 p.m. The Huskies are 1-1 on the year after a loss at Harvard last Sunday.
Chelby Koker led all scorers in the game with 23 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists. Koker is averaging 20 points per game to start the 2021-22 season and has scored in double figures in 27 straight games dating back to last year.
