DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team goes on the road for the first time in over two weeks Saturday when it travels to take on the Western Michigan Broncos at University Arena. Game time is set for 1 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.
NIU (11-9, 9-6 MAC) looks to get back on track after an 82-79 loss to Ball State Wednesday night. The Huskies led 79-76 with 1:22 to play in regulation only to see the Cardinals score the final six points of the game.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led NIU with 22 points, her 10
th 20-point game of the year.
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) tied a season-high with 20 points and tied a career-high with five three-pointers.
Poisson has scored in double figures in four of the last six games. Over that stretch, the redshirt-junior is averaging 12 points per game and shooting 45.7 percent from long range. Poisson leads the Mid-American Conference in three-point field goal percentage at 46.6 percent and is fifth with 2.4 threes per game. As a team, NIU leads the league in three-point field goal percentage at 39.1 percent which puts the Huskies 10
th in the country.
NIU is 4-1 on the road in conference games this season, averaging over 76 points per game. The Huskies are shooting 40 percent from the three-point line and 43.7 percent from the floor in those five games. NIU has a +11.8 rebound margin on the road in conference led by
Mikayla Brandon's (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) 9.6 rebounds per game and
A'Jah Davis' (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) 8.8.
Western Michigan (5-13, 4-12 MAC) has won three of its last four games after a 66-56 win at Eastern Michigan on Wednesday. The Broncos shot 75 percent from the three-point line in the first quarter to build a 26-9 lead. Reilly Jacobson led Western Michigan with 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Taylor Williams had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jacobson is fourth in the MAC in field goal percentage at 48.8 percent with Williams fourth in the league in rebounding at 9.9 per game. The Broncos are fifth in the conference in scoring defense allowing 70.7 points per game.
NIU has won four of the last six meetings against the Broncos, including a 73-56 win at the NIU Convocation Center on Jan. 2.
Following Saturday's game, the Huskies wrap up their home slate on Wednesday, March 3 against Eastern Michigan at 6 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center.
