ATLANTA, Ga. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team earned special mention honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) on Tuesday as it announced its Academic Top 25.
 
The 2025-26 Huskies posted a team grade point average of 3.526. It is the eighth straight year NIU had a team GPA of 3.5 or higher.
 
Senior guard Maria Serracanta earned both Academic All-Mid-American Conference and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors this past season. Serracanta led the league with a 2.00 assist-turnover ratio and was eighth in assists with 3.9 per game, all while carrying a 3.98 GPA in kinesiology. Fellow senior Marta Hermoso earned her first Academic All-MAC selection with a 3.37 GPA in health sciences.
 
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes women's college basketball teams across the nation in their respective divisions that have the highest combined GPAs over their full rosters for the entire season. Teams with a 3.0 combined GPA that qualify for consideration for the top 25 in their respective divisions are listed as special mentions. A total of 139 NCAA Division I women's basketball programs had a 3.0 team GPA or higher in the 2025-26 season.
