Edward Manuel scored a career-best 11 points, but the Huskies fell on the road against the Rockets. Saturday's contest against Eastern Michigan will be the second half of a doubleheader, with the NIU women's basketball team hosting Toledo. After an exciting 71-68 win at Ohio last Saturday, the NIU women's basketball team goes on the road Wednesday night to take on the Western Michigan Broncos. Redshirt-Senior guard
Janae Poisson led four Huskies in double-figure scoring with a season-high 20 points in the win over the Bobcats. NIU split its season series against Western Michigan last year, winning 73-56 at the Convocation Center. The Huskies open Saturday's doubleheader at the Convocation Center against Toledo at 1 p.m. Full previews of both games will be available on NIUHuskies.com.
Women's Track and Field
Saturday, January 15: GVSU Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State, 12 p.m.
The Huskie track and field team will compete for the first time in 2022 on Saturday when it travels to Allendale, Mich., for the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open. NIU opened its indoor season with one meet in December as
Taylor Ramsey won the high jump,
Jazmyn Smith won the long jump and
Kennedy Crawford claimed the 600 meters at Iowa's Jimmy Grant Invitational.
Competition on Saturday is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. CT with field events, action on the track is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
Wrestling

NIU Wrestling is in action Saturday night at Victor E. Court to take on Ohio in a Mid-American Conference dual. The Huskies were last in action at the Illinois Matmen Open held at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates Dec. 29-30. Redshirt-Senior
Mason Kauffman earned MAC Co-Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second place at the event in the 174-pound weight class. Izzak Olejnik battled through the wrestlebacks to take fourth place at 165 with
Lucian Brink and
Brit Wilson both posting top-eight finishes as well. NIU is 1-1 in MAC duals so far this season, with a 20-12 win over Kent State in the Huskie Duals on Dec. 18.

NIU continues its season-opening road trip and takes on its first MAC opponent of 2022 when the Huskies travel to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Quad Meet against the host Golden Flashes, Southeast Missouri State and in-state foe Illinois. The Huskies are coming off a solid opening week performance at Florida where NIU took second in the Florida Quad Meet with a team score of 194.550, the highest season-opening score since 2017. All-arounder
Tara Kofmehl finished in the top four in three events – vault, floor exercise and the all-around, behind only gymnasts from No. 2 Florida.
Natalie Hamp also scored a third-place finish on bars. NIU's line-up featured six gymnasts making their college gymnastics debuts.
