DeKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University sophomore Diana Lukyanova was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week Tuesday after going undefeated in a pair of singles matches for the Huskies last week.
Playing No. 2 singles, Lukyanova won her matches against players from Marquette and DePaul to improve her dual match singles record to 5-2 on the season. Her 6-3, 7-6 win over Emilija Kojcic of Marquette was a key to NIU's 4-3 victory, giving the Huskies their first win over the Golden Eagles since 2003, breaking a nine-match MU winning streak.
She earned NIU's lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over DePaul's Lenka Antonijevic. Lukyanova also won both of her doubles matches – playing with partner Reagan Welch – over the weekend at No. 2 doubles.
Lukyanova is the second Huskie to be named the MAC singles player of the week in 2022 after Welch was honored a week ago.
NIU returns to action Saturday at Chick Evans Field House when they take on Pacific at 9 a.m. and Cardinal Stritch at 1 p.m.
