NIU Gymnastics Opens Home Schedule with Friday Tri-Meet

Huskies Welcome Lindenwood and Wisconsin-Whitewater to Convocation Center

DeKALB, Ill. – After opening the season with a grueling four-meet road schedule, the Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team welcomes Lindenwood and Wisconsin-Whitewater to the NIU Convocation Center for its 2022 home opener Friday.

The Tri-Meet gets underway at 6 p.m. and can be viewed online at NIUHuskies.com with a subscription. Follow live scoring here.

NIU is 5-3 on the season and is coming off its top performance of the year, a 195.075-194.575 win over Bowling Green. The win evened the Huskies' record versus Mid-American Conference opponents to 1-1 on the season.

The floor squad has led the way for NIU in its four meets to date, scoring 49.200 or higher twice with four different Huskies scoring 9.875 or higher on floor at least once.  Both freshman Emmalise Nock (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) and senior Tara Kofmehl (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain HS) have recorded scores of 9.925, becoming just the fourth and fifth NIU gymnasts all-time to achieve that score on floor exercise.

Veterans Kofmehl, Brookelyn Sears (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville HS) and Morgan Hooper (Lincoln, Neb./St. Pius X) have all been called on as all-arounders in 2022. Sears has a career and season-best score of 39.075 to lead NIU while Kofmehl posted 39.050 in the season opener at Florida.

Meanwhile, freshmen Nock and Alana Anderson (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West HS) have been impressive in their debut seasons with each earning a MAC Specialist of the Week Award. In addition to her team best 9.925 on floor exercise, Nock scored a 9.900 on vault at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic to record the first 9.9 on that event by NIU since 2017.  Anderson has twice scored 9.875 on floor exercise.

The Huskies have already competed against Lindenwood this season, with the Lions recording a win over at the Tennessee Classic in Lebanon, Tennessee on January 21.

Admission to all home gymnastics events at the NIU Convocation Center is free.
