DeKALB, IL – NIU Men's Basketball begins a two-game homestand Tuesday night against Akron and hosts Toledo for Saturday's doubleheader with the NIU women's basketball team. The women's tennis and gymnastics teams are also home this week as softball opens its 2022 season. Women's Golf begins its spring season this week as well.
 
Women's Golf

The Huskies open their spring season with the Mid-American Match Play at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. NIU played in four events in the fall with a top-five showing at the Redbird Invitational. Sophomore Jasmine Ly finished in the top-10 of all four tournaments with a fourth-place showing at the Johnie Imes Invitational last September.

A pair of home games await the Huskie men's basketball team this week as the Huskies host Akron on Tuesday night and Toledo on Saturday afternoon. Tuesday's game with the Zips is Greek Night, with all fraternities and sororities welcome for a celebration at the NIU Convocation Center. Saturday's contest against the Rockets will be the second game of a doubleheader, with the NIU women's basketball team opening the day with a matchup against Buffalo. After a 10-point win over Ohio on Sunday, the NIU women's basketball team goes on the road Wednesday night to face Bowling Green. The Huskies had five players score in double figures Sunday led by A'Jah Davis and Nia Ahart who both had a team-high 16 points for NIU's fifth win in the last seven games. On Saturday, NIU hosts Buffalo at 1 p.m. for Play 4 Kay Day to kickoff a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.  Full previews for all games will be available on NIUHuskies.com.

Thursday, February 10: Inside Huskie Basketball Radio Show, Byers Brewing Company (230 E. Lincoln Highway, Suite 100, DeKalb), 6 p.m. – Listen Live
 
Join the NIU men's basketball head coach Rashon Burno and women's basketball head coach Lisa Carlsen, student-athletes from each team and host Bill Baker Thursday night from 6-7 p.m. at Byers Brewing.  There is no charge to attend. The coaches will preview their upcoming games, take a look back at the latest wins and give fans a heads up on what to look forward to at the Convocation Center, from promotions to special events and more. Note that future rescheduled games may affect the schedule for the Inside Huskie Basketball Radio Show. Fans can tune in and listen to the show live on NIU flagship station WLBK AM 1360 and FM 98.9 in DeKalb, and on the NIU Huskies app or on the NIU channel on The Varsity Network app.

NIU Softball opens its 2022 season this weekend at the FAU First Pitch Classic, hosted by Florida Atlantic. Senior Katie Keller leads the Huskies into the new year. Keller was a First-Team All-MAC and Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection last season after leading NIU with a .422 batting average, seven home runs and 36 RBI. Claire Norred is the top returner in the circle after posting a 3.68 ERA in 159.2 IP in 2021.  
 
Women's Track and Field
Friday, February 11: at GVSU Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State, 9 a.m.
 
The Huskie women's track and field team heads to Allendale, Mich., for the second time this season on Friday, Feb. 11, when NIU competes in the GVSU Big Meet. NIU had a strong performance this past weekend at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational as Kadeja Campbell recorded a pair of top-five finishes, taking second in the 200 and fourth in the 400. Jazmyn Smith was runner-up in the long jump. Competition at Grand Valley on Friday is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT for track events and 11 a.m. for field events.
 
Women's Tennis

Sunday, February 13: Roosevelt, 12 p.m. | DePaul, 5 p.m.
 
NIU women's tennis starts a stretch of six straight home dual matches this weekend, hosting Marquette and St. Francis (Ill.) on Friday and Roosevelt and DePaul on Sunday. The Huskies went 2-1 last weekend, winning 7-0 against Western Illinois and St. Thomas before a loss at Notre Dame last Sunday. Freshman Reagan Welch was 3-0 in singles last weekend.
 
Gymnastics
Friday, February 11: at Illinois State, 7 p.m. – ESPN+

The Huskies take on Illinois State in a home-and-home this weekend beginning Friday at Redbird Arena with the two teams in action at the Convocation Center Sunday afternoon. NIU opened its home slate last Friday with a tri-meet victory over Lindenwood and Wisconsin-Whitewater with a school record team score of 196.300.  NIU also set a new record with a bars score of 49.325, led by Natalie Hamp's 9.925. The Huskies are now 7-3 on the season.
 
Wrestling
Sunday, January 13: at Northwestern, 12 p.m.
 
NIU Wrestling wraps up its four-dual road swing when it heads to Northwestern on Sunday. The Huskies dropped a hard-fought 17-15 dual at Buffalo last Saturday. Izzak Olejnik, Mason Kauffman and Brit Wilson all earned decision victories at Buffalo to stay atop the MAC rankings in their respective weight classes.
