LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The Northern Illinois University women's golf team opened its spring season with a 4-0-1 win over Western Michigan in its first action at the MAC Match Play event in Lakewood, Florida at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
The Huskies, who were seeded second in the 12-team tournament, received a first round bye before taking on the Broncos Monday afternoon.
NIU came on strong on the second nine as the Huskies led two matches, were tied in two matches, and trailed in one at the turn. NIU junior
Ahra Ko, who was 4UP through nine, defeated her opponent 4&3 and freshman Johanna Ludviksdottir came back to win by the same margin.
Jasmine Ly and
Caroline Klemp also dispatched their opponents before reaching the final two holes with 3&2 and 2UP wins, respectively.
The Huskies will take on in-state foe and third-seeded Illinois State in Tuesday morning's semifinals with tee times starting at 7:25 a.m. (CT). Central Michigan and Akron square off in the other semifinal. The finals will be held in the afternoon.
