DEKALB, Ill. – The NIU Women's Basketball team heads to Cleveland for the Mid-American Conference Tournament to highlight This Week in Huskie Athletics. The Huskie baseball and men's tennis team will both open conference play, with men's tennis hosting a pair of matches. The NIU women's golf, softball and women's gymnastics teams are also competing on the road.

Action is underway at the Trinity Forest Invitational where the Huskies are competing versus 16 teams from the southern and western United States in a field that includes nationally ranked Texas Tech (23), UNLV (38) and UTSA (52) as well as host SMU. Teams will play two rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,460-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. The Huskies' line-up in Dallas includes three sophomores –

Ahra Ko. In their first stroke play tournament of the spring last week at The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, California, Ly led the Huskies to a 10th place finish, highlighted by a final round 71.

NIU Women's Basketball enters the 2022 MAC Women's Basketball Championship at the number four seed after a 69-49 win over Central Michigan last Saturday.
Janae Poisson led the Huskies with 18 points as
A'Jah Davis had her 23rd double-double of the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds, becoming NIU's new single-season rebound leader with 338. This is the highest seed for NIU since 2017, when the Huskies reached the championship game as the four seed. A full preview will be available on NIUHuskies.com.

The Huskie softball team heads to Carbondale this weekend for four games against in-state foes in the Saluki Invitational before opening conference play next weekend. NIU will face both Eastern Illinois and SIUE twice, while not meeting the host Salukis in the new, revised weekend schedule. The Huskies are coming off a weekend split at Austin Peay, winning a pair of games against Bellarmine while dropping a pair against the host Governors.
Katie Keller continues her tear offensively for the Huskies, leading NIU with a .537 batting average on the season with three home runs and six doubles.
Men's Tennis

Conference play begins for the Huskie men's tennis team this weekend as they host Toledo and Ball State. NIU will welcome the Rockets to DeKalb on Friday before meeting the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies are coming off a setback at Drake this past Friday (March 4) and enters league play with a 6-3 overall record.
UPDATE: This weekend's tennis matches have been moved to Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford. Friday's match will now begin at 12 p.m.
Baseball

NIU opens MAC play with a four-game series at Ohio this weekend. Junior infielder
Aaron Harper hit .375 in last weekend's series at Lipscomb, drawing six walks in the three games. Ten different Huskies drove in a run last weekend. The Huskies and Bobcats split last season's series at Ralph McKinzie Field 2-2.
Women's Gymnastics

NIU makes the first of two back-to-back trips to Ypsilanti when the Huskies take on Eastern Michigan in the regular season finale for both teams. The Sunday competition will give NIU a chance to compete in the gym where the MAC Championships will be held six days later. NIU is coming off a fourth-place finish and a team score of 194.475 at the Illinois Quad Meet that dropped NIU's record to 9-10 on the season. Senior Tara Kofmehl won floor exercise with a 9.925, Natalie Hamp scored a 9.875 on bars and Ellery Werner added a 9.850 on balance beam to lead the way for the Huskies in Champaign.
