DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team has earned a spot on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, the association announced Wednesday morning.
 
The Huskies had the ninth-highest team cumulative grade point average in NCAA Division I for the 2021-22 season at 3.681. This is the fourth consecutive year NIU is on a WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll and the second that the Huskies are in the top-10. NIU was seventh in the nation in team GPA in 2021.
 
"This group continues to be very impressive in what they accomplish in the classroom," said head coach Lisa Carlsen. Our academic coordinator Randi Napientek and assistant coach Alexis Lawrence, who oversee academics within our program, are both exceptional in helping our players navigate their educational goals and responsibilities.
 
NIU had eight student-athletes named to the Mid-American Conference's Academic All-MAC Team in the 2021-22 season. A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]), Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) added an Academic All-MAC honor to their postseason All-MAC accolades. It was the fifth straight season the Huskies had at least six selections to the Academic All-MAC Team.
 
"Our players set the standard and uphold a high level of expectation for each other in all we do," Carlsen said. "Achievement in the classroom is definitely a big part of that in our culture."
 
The Huskies have the highest GPA of the three MAC schools on the 2022 WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll. Western Michigan and Bowling Green also made the top 25.
