CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northern Illinois University women's soccer redshirt senior goalkeeper Sadie McGill (Fort Worth, Texas/L.D. Bell) has been recognized as the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday (Oct. 10). Last week, McGill allowed zero goals, while making seven saves as the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan, 2-0, on Thursday (Oct. 5) and Miami, 1-0, on Sunday (Oct. 8).

"I'm delighted for Sadie," NIU head coach Michael O'Neill said. "She has been so important for us this season and it's great to see her get this award. I'm sure she would be the first to say how her teammates have all contributed towards this recognition, especially the back four and center midfielders who all work tirelessly to protect her goal."

In 13 matches this season, McGill has allowed only 12 goals, for an average of 0.94 goals per match, which is on pace for the lowest by a Huskie since Megan Donnally in 2017. McGill's five wins are also the most for a NIU goalkeeper since 2017, when Amy Annala had seven.

McGill shares the MAC Defensive Player of the Week award with Toledo goalkeeper Brielle Young.

NIU is currently on a three-match winning streak and hasn't allowed a goal since the first half of the team's September 28 match against Ohio, a streak of 334 consecutive minutes.

This week, McGill and the Huskies will take on Buffalo at home on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. before traveling to Kent State on Sunday, Oct. 15, as they look to continue their winning streak.
