This Week In Huskie Athletics
This week in Huskie athletics six teams will be in action. Football hosts their final home game of the season on Tuesday night against Western Michigan as a win would keep the Huskies bowl hopes alive. Men's basketball heads to Atlanta for games against Georgia State and Arkansas Little Rock and women's basketball travels to Evansville, Ind. to take on Southern Indiana. Volleyball plays the final game of their 2023 season as they host Western Michigan on Wednesday, November 15. Wrestling travels to take on Lindenwood and then Purdue over the weekend. Huskies' gymnastics hosts their annual Red/Black exhibition on Friday in Victor E. Court.

The NIU football team hosts its final home game of the regular season tonight against Western Michigan at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. With the Huskies and Broncos both at 4-6 on the year, the winner has a shot at bowl eligibility heading into the final game of the season. Tuesday night is Senior Night with the Huskies' seniors being honored at 5:35. It is also Military Appreciation Night. There will be a special presentation for the city of DeKalb which has been honored as the 2023 National Veteran City of the Year. The Huskies' last two games have gone down to the wire, with Ball State kicking a field goal at the end of regulation last week to win 20-17 over NIU. Senior linebacker
Tyler Jackson was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for his season-high 10 tackles against Ball State last week. Redshirt-Junior wide receiver
Trayvon Rudolph had 149 all-purpose yards, scoring on a 35-yard touchdown run. The Huskies won last year's meeting in Kalamazoo 24-21, scoring a touchdown in the final minute to secure the victory. A full preview is available now on NIUHuskies.com.

The Huskies head to Atlanta, Ga., this weekend for the Capitol Challenge, hosted by Georgia State. NIU will take on host Georgia State on Friday afternoon before meeting Little Rock on Saturday afternoon, both games will tipoff at 1 p.m. CT. The Huskies have won two-straight at home, topping App State and Illinois Tech. NIU hit the century mark for the first time since 2018 in the victory over Illinois Tech, scoring 107 points. For the season, NIU is averaging 89.3 points per game with four players scoring in double figures. Georgia State comes into the weekend with a 1-1 overall record after winning at Western Michigan this past Saturday while Little Rock is also 1-1 after falling to UIC in its last contest. The NIU women's basketball team wraps up their season-opening three-game road swing Thursday night at Southern Indiana at 7 p.m. The Huskies are 0-2 to start the year after a loss at Western Illinois last Sunday. Senior guard
Jayden Marable led NIU with 16 points, adding three assists and three steals. Marable leads NIU in scoring through two games this season at 13 points per game. The Huskies defeated the Screaming Eagles last season in the first meeting between the two programs, 63-51, at the Convocation Center. NIU led by two at halftime and outscored Southern Indiana 21-6 in the third quarter to take a 48-31 lead. A full preview will be on NIUHuskies.com later in the week.

The Huskies will conclude the 2023 regular season as they host Western Michigan on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. inside Victor E. Court. Wednesday's match-up will be the second meeting this season between the Broncos and the Huskies, having met on October 17 in Kalamazoo. The Broncos claimed the first meeting, a 3-0 sweep of the Huskies. The Huskies offense had 40 kills and a hitting percentage of .229 in the first meeting.Â

Friday, November 17: Red/Black Exhibition, 6:00 p.m.
The NIU Huskies Gymnastics team will host their annual Red/Black exhibition meet on Friday. In 2023 three Huskies,
Emmalise Nock,
Natalie Hamp and
Alyssa Al-Ashari competed in the NCAA regionals. The Huskies have added seven freshmen to the roster for the 2024 season. Â The Huskies Red/Black Meet will take place inside Victor E. Court and will split the squad into a red and black team. Admission to the Red-Black Meet is free as are all home gymnastics meets. The Huskies open their regular season on January 6 at the Missouri Quad Meet.
