Christina Sutcliffe Receives Contract Extension

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier announced on Saturday (June 24) the contract extension of Huskie softball head coach Christina Sutcliffe.

Sutcliffe's extension is through the 2024-25 season.

"I'm happy to extend Coach Sutcliffe through the 2024-25 season," said Frazier. "Her commitment to NIU, to NIU softball, and to developing student-athletes on and off field are unquestioned. I look forward to Christina's continued leadership of our softball team."

In 11 seasons guiding the NIU softball program, Sutcliffe has mentored 85 Academic All-MAC honorees, 32 All-MAC selections, 14 All-Region standouts, three MAC Freshman of the Year, one All-American and two Academic All-Americans. She led the Huskies to a MAC West Division crown in 2016 and has twice taken NIU to the championship game of the MAC Tournament.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank Mr. Frazier and President Freeman for their exceptional leadership and consistently demonstrating a steadfast dedication to the development and success of our student-athletes," said Sutcliffe. "I am incredibly honored and humbled by the university's decision to extend my contract.

"I am committed to nurturing the growth and potential of our student-athletes, helping them become not only exceptional athletes but also well-rounded individuals prepared for success beyond their collegiate years. Our staff looks forward to building upon its solid foundation and aiming for new heights in the competitive landscape of the MAC."

This past season, Sutcliffe guided the Huskies to 26 wins, including 15 conference victories, with a roster that featured 11 freshmen. Kelly Walinski and Danielle Stewart each earned First Team All-MAC honors while Kiley Conner was named Second Team All-MAC and the MAC Freshman Player of the Year. Sam Mallinder and Stewart were both named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Third Team.

Sutcliffe's Huskies are highly accomplished off the field, with five players earning Academic All-MAC honors this spring, three being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and the program earning the Female Victors Cup and Community Service Team of the Year awards at this spring's Victors Awards Ceremony.
