Ben Sluzas (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) of the Northern Illinois University men's golf team has been named the Mid-American Conference Co-Men's Golfer of the Week for his top-10 finish at this week's VCU Shootout.
Sluzas posted 18-hole and 54-hole career-bests at the VCU Shootout at The Country Club of Virginia, which wrapped up on Tuesday. The junior tied for eighth place with a 54-hole score of nine-under par 207. He opened the tournament with rounds of 69 and 72 that put him in a tie for 21
st after the first two rounds on Monday. Sluzas helped vault NIU into a tie for sixth on the team leaderboard with his career-best 66 on Tuesday, a round that included seven birdies against just one bogey.
Of his six rounds played this season, Sluzas has played five at even par or lower. He shares this week's Golfer of the Week honor with Toledo's Barend Botha who also tied for eighth at VCU. This is the fourth time Sluzas has been named MAC Golfer of the Week. He earned the honor three times last season.
NIU is back in action October 1-3 at the Badger Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin at University Ridge Golf Course.
