CLEVELAND -- Freshman
Arianna Calloway of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team was named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday (Jan. 24).
Calloway took top honors in the high jump last Friday (Jan. 19) at Iowa State's Cyclone Open, clearing the bar at 1.78 meters (5-10.00) to claim her second consecutive high jump title to begin her collegiate career. This also marks the second MAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for the native of Blue Springs, Mo.
The victory by Calloway led a Huskie sweep of the top-two spots in the high jump at the Cyclone Open as teammate
Kamiya Dendy (Anderson, S.C./Auburn) took second place, clearing 1.62 meters (5-03.75).
Calloway is currently ranked first in the MAC, and tied for 22nd in the country, in the high jump having topped a school record height of 1.80 meters (5-10.75) at Notre Dame's Blue & Gold Invitational in December.
NIU will return to action this Friday, Jan. 26, when the Huskies send a group of athletes to the Olivet Nazarene Invite in Bourbonnais, Ill.
