Women's Golf | October 21
SAN MARCOS, Texas— Concluding the fall portion of their schedule, the Northern Illinois University Huskie women's golf team finished competition at the Jim West Challenge this afternoon, hosted by Texas State University.
Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/De La Salle College) led the Huskies on the course, going eight over par of the tournament. Ouellet carded eight birdies over three rounds.
"(This is) one of the most elite tournaments in the country and this event (with the support of the Jim West family) takes women's golf to the next level. We are very thankful to have been able to have been able to compete with a talented group of teams," said NIU head coach
Kim Kester. "Super happy to see Caroline finish on a positive note and she used her familiarity with Texas golf to her advantage. These last fall tournaments have shown us what we need to work on prior to our spring season."
Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) carded five birdies over three rounds while
Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) had four birdies and an eagle in the tournament. Raines recorded the lone eagle of the tournament for the Huskies.
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) and
Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) rounded out the Huskies scorecard. Kent led the Huskies with nine birdies at the tournament while Lúðvíksdóttir had five birdies.
The first round saw Lúðvíksdóttir and Thorman each birdie the 18th hole, a par five. Kent and Lúðvíksdóttir birdied the fifth hole, a par five in the third round. Lúðvíksdóttir, Kent, and Ouellet all birdied the 14th hole, a par five, in the third round.
The Huskies will return to the course on Feb. 11-12 as they compete at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate Invite in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
