DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team picked up two victories on Saturday as the Huskies took down Eastern Illinois, 6-1, and Lewis, 7-0, at the Nelson Tennis Center.  

"Two solid wins today. We handled the adversities very well today to get the job done," coach Shao-Yu Yu said. "We are looking to continue the momentum for next weekend at Youngstown." 

The Huskies opened the day against EIU at 9 a.m.  

NIU took the first point of the dual as the duo Cheng En Tsai (Taipei, Taiwan / Abraham Baldwin) and Mikael Vollbach (Rothis, Austria) won their doubles match 6-2. Saul Berdullas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Armin Koschtojan (Halle (Saale), Germany) also won 6-2 to clinch the first point.  

Tsai took the Huskies first singles match at No. 1 singles as he lost just one game in the 6-1, 6-0 victory against Pau Riera. Berdullas also controlled his match at No. 3 singles as he won 6-2, 6-0 over Thomas Wallace. 

 Koschtojan scored the Huskies dual clinching fourth point with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over the Panthers' Tyler Carlin.  

In NIU's second dual of the day the Huskies did not drop a match as they won 7-0 over Lewis. 

 The Huskies picked up the doubles point to open the dual. Luke Welker (Elgin, Ill.) and Sam Klein (Elm Grove, Wis. / Brookfield East) won their opening doubles match in dominant fashion, by a score of 6-0. Vollbach and Tsai clinched the doubles point for NIU with a 7-6 victory over Indrek Soome and Matias Parzajuk.  

After En Tsais's opponent retired for NIU's second point, Vollbach recorded NIU's third point with a commanding victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Parzajuk 6-4, 6-0. Koschtojan clinched the Huskies second dual victory of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tatenda Mutetwa at No. 4 singles.  

Welker won his No.6 singles match 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) to close out the dual and clinch the 7-0 sweep.  

NIU will be back in action at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 with a road match at Youngstown State.
