YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team recorded its sixth straight win with a 6-1 win over Xavier in Youngstown, Ohio Saturday.
 
NIU (8-2) opened up the dual by taking the first point with victories in doubles play.
 
"As a team, the guys played closer to their potential today," head coach René Vidal said. "This is a special group. We're excited about getting back home and hitting the practice courts this week."
 
Senior Armin Koschtojan (Halle (Saale), Germany) and freshman Saul Berdullas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles to start the Huskies' run. Seniors Mikael Vollbach (Rothis, Austria) and Cheng En Tsai (Taipei, Taiwan) won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point.
 
In singles play, Berdullas picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over the Musketeers' Charlie Temming.
 
At No. 1 singles, Tsai won 6-2, 6-2 over Ryan Cahill to record the Huskies' third point.
 
Sam Klein (Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles against Kyle Totorica to pick up the Huskies' fourth point and clinch the win.
 
Vollbach defeated Pascal Mosberger 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Koschtojan wrapped up the day with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win.
 
The Huskies will be back in action at home in the Nelson Tennis Center on Saturday, March 2 against Southern and Omaha.
