CLEVELAND—Jacob Brya (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns) of the Northern Illinois University wrestling program has been named the MAC West Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Brya got the third win of the night for the Huskies on February 23 as the Huskies defeated Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Brya put the Huskies up 9-0 as he posted a 7-3 decision over Eric Almarinez of SIUE.
"Jacob is an incredibly hard worker and dedicated teammate," said NIU head coach
Ryan Ludwig. "The team is excited to see his efforts get rewarded as we see team success as well."
Brya moves to 10-3 on the season and 7-1 in MAC duals.
With the Huskies defeat of SIUE on February 23, the Huskies completed their first undefeated home season in 20 years and won the MAC West division.
This is the fourth honor for the Huskie wrestling program this season, third in the month of February, and Brya's first honor.
The Huskies will compete at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships, March 8-9, as Kent State will host.
