Women's Golf Set To Battle At MAC Championships

DeKALB, Ill.—With five top-5 finishes over the last five tournaments, the Northern Illinois University Huskie women's golf program takes their momentum to Ohio as they compete at the Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship.
 
The 54-hole tournament will start on April 21 and run through April 23. The Pinnacle Golf Club is par-72, 6,201-yard course.  
 
"We are very excited to get to Ohio for the MAC Championship," said NIU women's golf head coach Kim Kester. "We have had a little time off in the past week to recover from our four events in a row. We are very happy with the progress we made this spring to give ourselves a chance to compete for a MAC Championship."
 
Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ontario, Can./ Holy Names High School) has led the Huskies with 73.28 strokes per round as she has seen action in nine tournaments during the 2023-24 season. Ly finished in a tie for third at the Redbird Invitational in the fall before tying the school record low round of 67 in the second round of the Johnie Imes Invitational. Ly has been consistent on the course for the Huskies, with six consecutive top-10 finishes.
 
Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Can./ Hills International Golf Academy) averages 75.56 strokes per round, having seen action in nine tournaments for the Huskies. Naro has had three consecutive top-10 finishes in the last three tournaments. Naro's season low round was 70, in the first round of the Redbird Invitational.
 
Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Can./ Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) recorded a season-low 69 at the Pat Bradley Invitational. Romancew won the NAU Red Rocks Invitational in March, taking first as she went three under par to win. Romancew is averaging 73.80 strokes per round as she has played in 25 rounds of golf this season.
 
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/ iUniversity Prep) had her first top-10 finish this season at the NAU Red Rocks Invitational before following that with a top-5 finish at the Pinetree Invitational. Kent has a season-low round of 70 at the EKU Colonel Classic as she has seen action in eight tournaments for the Huskies. Kent has averaged a 77.64 round for the season with 22 rounds of golf played.
 
Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) and Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands/ OSG Willem Blaeu) have seen action in six tournaments for the Huskies this season. Lúðvíksdóttir has an average round score of 80.76 while carding her lowest round of the season a 73, in the second round of the Redbird Invitational. Nijenhuis had a season-low round of 75 at the Johnie Imes Invitational and carded a 76 at the NAU Red Rocks and Oral Roberts Invitationals. Nijenhuis is averaging 80.41 strokes per round this season.
 
The Huskies have claimed four MAC Golfer of the Week honors this season as Ly (twice), Romancew, and Kent earned the honors for the Huskies.
 
At the 2023 MAC Championships, the Huskies took second place with their best score in the final round to finish 44 over par.
