RICHMOND, KY— Two Huskies finished in the top-15 as the Northern Illinois University women's golf team ended in a tie for fifth place at the Colonel Classic, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University, at the Gibson Bay Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament was reduced to 36 holes as inclement weather in the area led to the cancellation of Tuesday's (April 2) final round.

The Huskies recorded a team total of 603, eleven strokes behind Morehead State's winning score of 592.

"They handled the conditions well. It was super windy, and they handled it well. We were able to make adjustments and know we have to clean up some mistakes. We are going to control what we can control and let the outside factors play out as they will," said NIU head coach Kim Kester."

Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ontario, Can./Holy Names High School) led the Huskies on the course, scoring a 149 in the first two rounds. Ly was one stroke over par in the first round (73) before shooting four over in the second round. Ly carded five birdies at the event for her fifth consecutive top-10 finish and sixth overall.

Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Can./Hills International Golf Academy) had her fourth straight top-15 finish, carding a 150 over two rounds. Naro was six over par in the first round before securing two birdies on her card during the second round.

Naro was the only Huskie to shoot par while Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) shot under par, shooting a 70 in her second round.

Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Can./ Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) carded a 152, going one over in the first round. Romancew had a birdie and an eagle in her first round to finish with a 73. After an opening par in the second round, Romancew had back-to-back bogeys before rebounding on the back nine to finish with a 79.

Kent carded only one birdie in the first round as she shot an 83. Kent rebounded and carded four birdies in the second round to finish two under par and a total score of 153. Kent finished in the top-30 for the fourth time this season.

Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) carded an 82 in the opening round. Lúðvíksdóttir had an 83 in the second round, which included a birdie on the tenth hole as she collected a total score of 165.

"As a fifth-year senior, we know Jasmine is going to put the time in and make adjustments to her game. Caroline has been stepping up (the last few weeks) and it's shown in her rounds. She is making adjustments throughout her rounds and in between rounds to remain competitive," noted Kester.

The Huskies finished in a tie for fifth with Belmont University and were ahead of fellow MAC schools, Western Michigan, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan at the tournament.

Up next, the Huskies return to action on April 8-9 as they compete at the Oral Roberts Spring Invite in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
