DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team earned a ninth place ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) final Midwest Regional Ranking, sponsored by Tennis-Point, released on Friday (June 7).
"Due to the strength of the Midwest region, earning a top 10 finish is a huge victory for our team," NIU head coach René Vidal said. "I am really proud of our guys."
NIU finished the 2024 dual season with an 18-6 overall record and 7-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play. The Huskies earned a second-place finish in the MAC regular season and qualified for the MAC tournament.
This marks the first time NIU has finished with a top-10 regional ranking since 2021, when the Huskies were also ranked ninth. The last time NIU finished higher than ninth in the region was in 2015, when the Huskies were ranked eighth.
Freshman
Saul Berdullas won MAC Freshman of the Year honors while
Cheng En Tsai and
Mikael Vollbach were named to the All-MAC First Team.
