DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Judson 6-1 to earn their second win of the weekend. The Huskies hosted their first two home duals this weekend, defeating EIU 6-1 on Saturday and Judson 7-0 on Sunday.

Two Huskies Pratyaksh (Delhi, India/Piatti Tennis Center) and Gustavo Juarez Lopez (Mexico City. Mexico) earned their first singles wins in their collegiate career's.

"We're lucky to have a real united team with some great captains that are showing a high level of leadership every single day," head coach René Vidal said. "Today, especially for our freshmen, for Gustavo Juarez and for Pratyaksh, it was great to see them come out in their first dual matches and get some victories. They have worked so hard in practice; they really earned their success."

NIU (3-1) opened the dual by going 2-0 to take the doubles point.

The duo of Saul Berdullas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain and Sam Klein (Elm Grove. Wis./Brookfield East) won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles to get it started. Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain) and Federico Scotuzzi (Bergamo, Italy/North Alabama) won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles to seal the first point for NIU.

NIU then swept singles play in perfect order one through six. Arrastia took down Chadd Kerrigan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to move to 3-1 in 2025.
Berdullas controlled his match at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 and pushing NIU ahead 3-0.

Scotuzzi then came from behind 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to get the clinching point in the dual.

Iker Dellien Velasco also came back from down one set, winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Pratyaksh controlled his first match as a Huskie winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Juarez Lopez closed out the dual with a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win.

NIU is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as NIU travels to take on Illinois State. That dual is set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
