PHOENIX—Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nevada/Bishop Gorman) carded par in the first round of the GCU Invitational as the Northern Illinois University Huskies women's golf team concluded action at the tournament. The Huskies finished in a tie for tenth at the invitational.
As a team, the Huskies carded 26 birdies and two eagles over three rounds.
"Despite a less-than-ideal start, the team fought back to have a great second round. We struggled on the day today but were able to clean up some previous strokes from prior tournaments. We will continue to work on the little things and get better in pressure situations as we prepare for the Clover Cup."
Tallent finished in the top-25 of all competitors to the lead NIU in the clubhouse. Tallent posted an opening round par which featured four birdies through 18 holes. Tallent claimed a fifth birdie in the second round as she carded two over par at 74. Tallent added four birdies in the final round as she finished the three-round tournament with nine birdies.
Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/De La Salle College) saw her best round come in the second round, as she went two over par. Ouellet posted rounds of 77 in the first and third rounds. Ouellet posted an eagle in the second round as she carded four birdies for the tournament.
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) was the only Huskie to go under par during the tournament, carding a 70 in the second round that featured four birdies. Kent carded a birdie in the first and third rounds for the Huskies for a combined six birdies.
Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) carded three birdies at the tournament while
Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) had two birdies and an eagle for the Huskies. Competing as an individual,
Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands/OSG Willem Blaeu) had a pair of birdies for her tournament to round out the Huskies on the course.
The Huskies returns to the course on March 10 as they compete at the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame. The Huskies will compete at the three-day tournament, played at the Wigwam Golf Club-Blue Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
