Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team saw
Kiera O'Shea earn wins on both vault and beam in Friday's meet with Central Michigan.
Kiera O'Shea (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) earned a score of 9.850 on both the vault and beam to earn first place in both events.
"I am super proud of her that is amazing to win on two events," head coach Nita Teague said. "Her beam was amazing and to finish of that well was great."
CMU won the close meet by a score of 194.400 to 194.175.
"We did a really good job hanging in there as a team, it was a tight competition the whole time," Teague said.
Aliyah Kelly won on the all-around in the meet and posted a 38.850 overall in the meet.
"I am super proud of Aliyah," Teague said. "She finally got in there to compete on all the events and for her to win is very impressive."
The Huskies opened the meet on bars and were led by
Aliyah Kelly (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) with a 9.825 which was good for third place.
Katie Ferguson added a 9.725 and Natalia
Kraus (Fairport, N.Y./Southern Connecticut State) earned a 9.700. NIU scored a 48.325 on bars.
NIU then moved to the vault where O'Shea's 9.850 was good for a tie for the win in the meet.
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) and
Jocelyn Harbeck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) both scored a 9.800 as well. The Huskies posted a 48.525 on the vault.
Kelly and Sallee led the way for NIU on floor as they both scored a 9.750.
Audrey Brenner (Fon du Lac, Wis./Fon du Lac) and Harbeck both added scores of 9.725. NIU posted a 48.575 on the event.
After O'Shea's first place finish with a 9.850,
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) earned second place on beam with a 9.800. Harbeck scored a 9.700 on beam as the Huskies closed the meet with a 48.450.
The meet was the Huskies final regular season MAC meet. NIU will travel to Champaign, Ill. to face the University of Illinois at 1 p.m. on Sunday to close out the regular season. The Huskies will then head back to Mount Pleasant for the MAC Championships on Saturday, March 22.
