Women's Golf | March 16
AUGUSTA, GA.—Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) led the Huskies in the clubhouse as the Northern Illinois University Huskies women's golf team competed at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, hosted by Augusta University. The 54-hole tournament was reduced to 36 holes as weather delays eventually led to the cancelation of Sunday's (March 16) final round.
The Huskies carded a team score of 630 in a field that included Michigan, Michigan State, Texas Tech, and tournament leaders, Georgia Southern.
Raines had two birdies in the first round as she went four over par through 18 holes. Raines recorded a top-40 finish for the Huskies as she led the team for the first time this season.
Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) carded a birdie in each of her rounds as she went 14 over par at the tournament.
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) and
Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/De La Salle College) finished at 15 over par. Kent carded one birdie in the first round while Ouellet had two birdies in the second round.
Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nevada/Bishop Gorman) was the final Huskie at the tournament, carding one birdie in the first round.
The Huskies carded eight birdies as a team, with five birdies coming in the first round of the tournament.
The Huskies will be back in action on April 6-7 as they compete at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, hosted by Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana.
