DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team heads back out on the road on Wednesday to take on the Buffalo Bulls. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the radio call on 94-9 WDKB.
Head Coach
Jacey Brooks returns home to western New York Wednesday night as the Huskies take on Buffalo. Originally from Machias, N.Y., Brooks scored 1,219 points in her playing career at Buffalo State. She started her coaching career at St. Bonaventure and Canisius. Brooks was on the Buffalo staff from 2023-25 as the Bulls posted a 49-21 record and won the 2025 postseason WNIT.
NIU (2-11, 0-2 MAC) is coming off a 74-56 loss to Ball State on Saturday.
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) and
Nadechka Laccen (San Juan, Puerto Rico/St. Bonaventure) both led the Huskies in scoring with 13 points. Wingate added five rebounds and a career-high four steals. It was Wingate's third straight game in double-figure scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game over that stretch.
Maria Serracanta (Sabadell, Spain/Mercer) had five assists for the second straight game on Saturday with only one turnover. It was her sixth game in the last seven with an assist-turnover ratio of 2.0 or better. Twenty-three of Serracanta's 36 assists this season have come in the last six games.
Buffalo (2-11, 0-2 MAC) is also looking for its first Mid-American Conference win of the season after an 83-65 loss at Western Michigan on Saturday. The Bulls led 35-24 at the half only to see WMU shoot 75 percent from the field in the third quarter to take a 57-47 lead. The Broncos forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 23 points. Junior guard Paula Lopez led Buffalo with 17 points. Meg Lucas had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lopez leads the Bulls in scoring at 11.5 points per game with Lucas putting up 8.7 points and a team-high 10.4 rebounds per game. Buffalo is second in the MAC in three-point percentage defense, holding opponents to 27.5 percent from the arc.
NIU leads the all-time series against Buffalo 21-12. The Bulls have won two of the last three in the series after last year's 84-58 win in Buffalo. The Huskies are 6-4 in their last 10 games against Buffalo.
