Raines Leads Huskies At BGSU Women's Intercollegiate

LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ—Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) ended her tournament with an eagle of the final hole as she led the Northern Illinois University Huskies women's golf team as they wrapped up action at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate today.
 
Raines finished in a tie for eleventh as the Huskies took eighth overall. NIU was third in par-5 average as a team, averaging 4.89 strokes. The Huskies were tied for fifth for total birdies with 36.
 
"Good bounce back round today," noted NIU head coach Kim Kester. "Great to have consistency from Mia and Dakota. (We're) making some positive strides to get a 3-4 spot (and we) played more confident golf today. Starting to see more red numbers on the board, which is nice.
 
Raines shot an even par in her first round as she carded six birdies in that round. Raines added three birdies in her first five holes of the second round as she went three over on the day. In the final round, she carded just one birdie in the first nine holes before the eagle lead the Huskies at two over par. Raines' 12 birdies were tied for fifth most at the tournament while sitting in fifth on the par-5 average at 4.60.
 
Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) had just one birdie in the first 18 holes as she matched Raines with a 71. Tallent carded three birdies in the second round of action with a 74 as she had just one birdie in the final round. Tallent finished inside the top-20 for the Huskies, her second top-20 finish this season. Tallent had the sixth most pars of all competitors.
 
Emile Chile (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) and Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) were the final two Huskies to have all three rounds in the 70s. Chile, who claimed a top-30 finish, had eight birdies over three rounds. Chile birdied the 18th hole in all three rounds. Kent had four birdies in her time on the course, with a pair coming in the second round.
 
Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/De La Salle College) had two birdies in the first two rounds before carding five in the final round. Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands/OSG Willem Blaeu) was the final Huskie in action this week, carding four birdies in the first two rounds.
 
The Huskies return to the course February 24-25 as they compete at the GCU Invitational. Action will take place at the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
