Women's Gymnastics | February 14
DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team is back in action this weekend, traveling to Bowling Green on Sunday for a 1 p.m. meet.
NIU last competed in a tri-meet against Western Michigan and West Virginia, finishing third in the meet. The Huskies finished the meet with a season-high score on bars, finishing with a 48.225.
Freshman duo
Deziray Boykin (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) and
Avery Riiff (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) led the team on bars, earning scores of 9.725 and 9.750.
The highest scoring event for NIU was on vault, led by a career-high 9.800 from junior
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge). In total, four Huskies finished with a 9.750 or higher. Brown also led NIU on beam, posting a 9.750.
Senior
Samantha Nickle (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) earned her first win of the season on floor, tying a career-high with a 9.875. Senior
Jocelyn Harbeck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) set a new personal best on her floor routine with a 9.825 while Riiff added a 9.825.
Junior
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County High) turned in a solid meet, scoring a 9.775 on both vault and floor and a 9.725 on beam.
Bowling Green competed in two meets last week, finishing second in a quad meet on Feb. 6 and first in a tri-meet on Feb. 8. The Falcons have a team score average of 193.004 with a high score of 194.275 in a quad-meet against Greenville, UW-Eau Claire and Western Michigan.
Keira Thornton has been one of the Falcons most consistent performers this season, averaging a 9.771 on floor, 9.650 on bars and 9.642 on vault. Megan Dzialo has score a 9.800 or higher in two of the last three meets and has a NQS of 9.730.
