Women's Gymnastics | February 15
DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team traveled to Bowling Green, Ohio, taking on the Falcons on Sunday afternoon. NIU fell just short in the meet, 194.350-193.425.
In total, NIU had five take the podium, including two winners, and set a new season-high score on vault with a 48.450.
"This was a great competition so it is tough not getting the win. So proud of the ladies and their tenacity," said head coach Nita Teague. "We had some awesome performances today, starting on bars our freshman Elizabeth (Poncin) hit a great routine."
NIU swept on vault today for the second time this season. Junior
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County High) took first place with a 9.850, followed by senior
Jocelyn Harbeck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) scoring a 9.800 and sophomore
Audrey Brenner (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) finishing with a 9.775. Both Harbeck and Sallee both tied career-highs with their performances.
Junior
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) won on beam for the first time this season, tying a season-high 9.800. Poncin (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) placed for the third time this season, earning a score of 9.750.
"We will be back at it on Friday with Beauty and the Beast and we are excited to be back home celebrating our seniors," said Teague.
Vault – 48.850
NIU finished the meet against the Falcons with its highest vault score since March 2, 2025, when the Huskies earned a 48.925 against Ball State. Senior
Samantha Nickle (Yorktown, Va.York) earned a score of 9.725 to set a season-high while junior
Drake White (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) finished with a 9.700.
Bars – 47.650
Poncin led the way for NIU on bars while sophomore
Maria King (Nashville, Tenn. /Currey Ingram Academy) recorded a 9.625.
Beam – 48.225
Brown has now recorded a 9.800 on beam in two of the last three meets for NIU and has been the Huskies top scorer in three straight. Nickle added a 9.700, finishing fourth.
Harbeck set a new season-high with a 9.675.
Floor – 48.700
White tied a career-high on floor with a 9.825, tying for fourth in the meet. Sallee earned a score of 9.750, the junior's third consecutive meet with a 9.700 or higher.
The senior duo of Harbeck and Nickle each scored a 9.725.
