DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team heads to Illinois State for a Monday night meet. The Huskies and the Redbirds will face off on ESPN+ at 6 p.m.
In the Beauty and the Beast Meet on Friday, NIU had three take home first place as the Huskies finished second in the tri-meet against Southeast Missouri State and Wilberforce.
Freshman
Elizabeth Poncin (Tinley Park, Ill. / Tinley Park) set a new season-high for the Huskies on bars, finishing with a 9.825 for a new career-high. Poncin secured her second win of the season on bars and fourth top three finish.
Junior
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge) tied a career-high on beam with a 9.850, finishing second in the meet. Junior
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky. / Woodford County High) won on vault for the second straight meet, also tying a career-high with a 9.850.
Sophomore
Drake White (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) won on floor for the second time this season while freshman
Deziray Boykin (Henderson, Nev. / Green Valley) and senior
Samantha Nickle (Yorktown, Va. / York) set season-high marks on beam.
Illinois State last competed against SEMO on Saturday, Feb. 14, falling 194.150-192.475. The Redbirds rank 57
th and have a team average of 193.143 through seven meets this season with a high of 194.025 coming on Feb. 1. Monday night is the final home meet of the season for Illinois State
Savannah Ray has a NQS score of 9.745 on vault, 9.690 on bars and 9.550 on beam while Leah Davis has a team-high NQS of 9.790 on floor.
