Women's Gymnastics | February 5
DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team will compete in its third consecutive home meet on Friday, hosting Western Michigan at the NIU Convocation Center at 6 p.m. Admission is free and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear red for Friday night's meet. Additionally, all red apparel at Victor E. Threads will be 10 percent off.
NIU won three events in its last meet against Wisconsin-La Crosse, winning the meet 193.000-191.400 on Sunday, Feb. 1. The Huskies swept the top three finishes on both vault and floor in the meet.
Junior
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) won on floor for the first time this season with a score of 9.800 and also placed second on beam with the same score. Freshman
Elizabeth Poncin (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) recorded her first career win on bars, earning a score of 9.775.
In total, the NIU placed nine and had four individual winners with sophomore
Audrey Brenner (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and freshman
Alanah Wallace (Frisco, Tex./Frisco) tying on vault.
Western Michigan finished first place in a quad meet this past weekend against Greenville, Bowling Green and Wisconsin-Eau, scoring a season-high 195.500.
Isabella Ciolfi has stood out for the Broncos this season, averaging a 9.735 on vault, 9.680 on beam and 9.575 on floor through five meets. Julie Korfhage is coming off a strong performance in Western Michigan's quad meet, scoring a 9.825 on floor, 9.800 on beam and 9.775 on bars.
Following the Huskies meet against Western Michigan, they will continue conference play at Bowling Green on Sunday, Feb. 15 before returning home for the Beauty and the Beast Meet on Friday, Feb. 20.
