RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team competed in the River Forest Collegiate Invitational over the weekend at the nearby River Forest Tennis Club. The final day of competition was shortened due to weather conditions.

The Huskies reached the finals in both Flight 1 Singles and Flight 2 Doubles.

In doubles, Chiao Bo Suo Nan / James Theriault recorded two wins to advance to finals of Flight 2. Suo Nan and Theriault posted a 6-4 win over Valter Larsson / Bernardo Vialle of DePaul and followed that with a 6-3 victory over Dimitri Moriarty / Jose Perez of Western Michigan. The final round against Aarav Nair / Maxime Salesses of UIC was not played.

In Flight 1 Doubles, Constantin Radu / Ibragim Turgambekov advanced to the consolation finals with a win over Western Michigan's Ahn Hoang Pham / Dominik Vonbank, 6-4.

Moving to singles, Radu (Craiova, Romania / UTSA) rolled positive momentum from last weekend by advancing to the finals of Flight 1. Radu opened with a 6-4, 6-4 win over DePaul's Tobias Leitner. In the semifinals against Mihailo Savic of UIC, the sophomore battled back for a hard-earned 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 10-7 win.

Radu has now won five consecutive singles matches this fall.

A pair of newcomers in senior Turgambekov (Almaty, Kazakhstan / Rider University) and freshman Aidan Shokrani (West Vancouver, Canada / Sentinel Secondary) notched their first singles wins as Huskies. Turgambekov defeated UIC's Henrique Sa 6-2, 6-3 in Flight 4 while Shokrani downed Arin Menon of Drake, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

The fall competition continues this weekend for NIU as the Huskies head to Cleveland, Oh. for the Horizon League Fall Championship.
