Zionsville, Ind. - The Northern Illinois men's golf team is beginning to peak at the right time, as for the second-straight day, the Huskies battled vicious winds and placed a season-best third at IUPUI's Wolf Run Intercollegiate, behind a second-place overall finish from freshman Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill.), at the Wolf Run Golf Club [par 71, 7,065 yards] on Monday afternoon.

Frame carded a second-round tally of 78, to finish second overall at 155 (+13). Akron's Brad Wright won the tournament with a 150 (68-82), while his teammates Colin Clemente (156), Blake Sattler (157) and Ryan Gutowski (157) rounded out the top five.

"Andrew played some very solid golf in some tough conditions today," NIU head men's golf coach John Cleary said.

Akron won the overall tournament with a 616. Miami (OH) placed second with a 634, followed by NIU (647), Indianapolis (647), Oakland (648), Ball State (655), Cincinnati (659), IUPUI `B' (667), Bradley (667), IUPUI (669), Butler (670), Detroit (678), Dayton (686) and Rend Lake CC (707).

"The wind was even stronger than yesterday and the course is extremely difficult," Cleary said. "It wasn't a very fair course setup, but we survived. We had a lot of good shots that didn't get rewarded, and a lot of not so good ones that did."

NIU's Matt Triplett (St. Charles, Ill.) and Alex Wagner (St. Charles, Ill.) each tied for 24th overall with a 164. Triplett carded a second round 83, while Wagner bounced back with an 81. Freshman Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill.) finished with a 167, while junior Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill.) added a 169.

The Huskies will take some time off before participating in Akron's FirstEnergy Intercollegiate on April 28-29, 2007.
