NIU Men's Golf In Eighth Place At FirstEnergy Intercollegiate

 Akron, Ohio -- Northern Illinois freshman Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill.) carded a one-over par tally of 145 (72-73) to help the Huskies to an eighth-place tie after first day action at the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate, hosted by Akron, at Firestone Country Club [par 72, 7,125 yards] on Saturday afternoon.

 

Charlotte and Akron are each tied for first place with an even-par total of 576, followed by Eastern Kentucky (577), Eastern Michigan (584), Binghamton (591), Ohio (596), Bowling Green (597), Ball State (601), NIU (601), Youngstown State (604), Miami (OH) (606), Western Kentucky (606), St. Joseph's (611), Georgetown (612), Cleveland State (621), St. Bonaventure (623) and George Washington (623).

 

Following Frame, NIU junior Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill.) is tied for 26th with a 149 (76-73). Redshirt freshman Matt Triplett (St. Charles, Ill.) is tied for 52nd with a 153 (74-79), followed by freshman Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill.) who carded a 154 (79-75). Freshman Greg Bauman (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finished with a 166, while sophomore Alex Wagner (St. Charles, Ill.) competed as an individual and entered the clubhouse with a 152.

 

"We played okay and it was really cold and windy," NIU head coach John Cleary said. "Andrew [Frame] played real steady and solid and Zach [Jecklin] played real well."

 

Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen is in first place with a four-under par 140 (73-67), while Eastern Michigan's Graham Hill is one stroke back with a 141 (70-61). Miami's Ben Wood is in third-place with a 142 (72-70), while there is a five-way tie for fourth-place at 143 (-1) with Charlotte's Corey Nagy, Akron's Colin Clemente and Brad Wright; Eastern Kentucky's Ryan Britt and Brandon Berry.

 

Final round action is slated to begin at 7 a.m. [CDT] on Sunday morning.
