DEKALB, Ill.-Northern Illinois University women's golfers Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill/Prospect) and Devon Harteneck (Lake City, Minn./Lincoln) were named to the National Golf Coaches Association Division I All-American Scholar Team.
Many had an outstanding senior season, both on the golf course and in the classroom. She earned a 3.67 G.P.A. while majoring in kinesiology and physical education and posted a first-place finish at the Western Illinois Invitational Sept. 17, 2007, shooting a 150. Harteneck turned in a 3.5 G.P.A. while studying sociology. She competed in all four fall events and two in the spring. Her best finish came at the Huskie Classic (Oct. 2, 2007) where she finished tied for 10th after shooting a 159.
"Abbie is a repeat winner and Devon is one of our few freshmen to attain Academic All-American," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "It's certainly a high honor in women's golf. It's wonderful for Abbie and Devon, and it's an honor for Northern Illinois to receive this award."
In order to be selected to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and compete in at least 50 percent of the school's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
