BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Due to severe wind that made the course unplayable, the final round of the BGSU Falcon Invitational was cancelled. As a result, yesterday's scores stand as the final scores and the Northern Illinois University women's golf team finished in fourth place with a 333.
Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan won the tournament with a 316, with fellow MAC member Akron finishing second after posting a 317. NIU finished ahead of host Bowling Green on their home track, which took sixth after scoring a 335, and seventh place Ohio (339).
Leading the way for the Huskies was junior Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward). Passolt carded a first round 82 and was one of five golfers to tie for 11th. Michelle Caporusso (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) tied for 16th after shooting an 83.
Kim Bailey (Gibson, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin Sibley) and teammate Carissa Burdi (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) shot an 84 for their respective rounds yesterday and tied for 22nd. Allie Parthie (Marinetta, Wis./Marinetta) shot an 86 in her round of play and finished 36th.
Katie Kuhn (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Mandi Vavrinchik (Elmhurst, Ill./York), who are played as individuals, round out the Huskie competitors. Kuhn took 50th after scoring a 90, while Vavrinchik finished in 58th with a 93.
Britney Hamilton of Western Michigan won the event after posting a 74 with Youngstown State's Kathryn Rogner close behind with a 76.
The Huskies complete their 2010-11 season next weekend when NIU travels to Nashport, Ohio for the 2011 MAC Golf Championships to be played at Longaberger Golf Course. First round play begins Friday.
