DeKALB – NIU men's golf will close out their fall season at the Pine Tree Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State at the Pine Tree Country Club October 24 and 25, two weeks after placing a season-best fifth at the Northern Intercollegiate. 

The Huskies finished fifth in the 12-team field that featured Big Ten opponents No. 1 Illinois and Indiana. Northern Illinois University finished ahead of in-state rivals Bradley, Loyola (Chicago), SIUE and Western Illinois, closing the 72-hole tournament 12 strokes behind second place Indiana with a 910 (+58) on the weekend.

Charlie Cameron (Canberra, Australia/Tyler J.C.) led the Huskies and shot a 226 (+13), landing him in a tie for 16th. He carded a one under 70 (-1) on the final day and was one of only five players to finish under par.

The Huskies top-four players all finished in the top-30 in the tournament. Salvador Rocha (Mexico City, Mexico/American School) and Paul Schlimm (Shorewood, Ill./St. Francis) both tied for 22nd after both shot a 229 while Pierrick Fillon (Voreppe, France/Lycee Pierre Beghin) tied for 30, recording a 231 (+18).

The Owls will host the Pine Tree Intercollegiate at the Pine Tree Country Club, coming off of a second-place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, beating the likes of North Carolina State and Maryland.

The Pine Tree Country Club was opened in 1962 and has welcomed legends such as Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Larry Nelson. The par 72 course will play at 7,108 yards and features tall Georgia pines, native hardwoods and an assortment of water hazards. 

The Pine Tree Intercollegiate will conclude the fall season for the team, returning to action Feb. 25, 2017 in Goodyear, Ariz., for the Loyola Intercollegiate.
